This wood can be steamed or left unsteamed and generally has a straight grain. Walnut can be easily worked with hand and machine tools, painted and stained, and polished for an exceptional finish. It has a medium density, moderate bending, low stiffness, and good dimensional stability. This means it is one of the most durable hardwoods in North America.
