Drying: Maple is kiln-dried until it reaches a moisture level of 6%.
Workability: It is easy to work with maple, using either hand or machine tools, although it does burn if machined with high-speed cutters. It turns, glues, and finishes well. Maple can easily be stained and oiled.
Maintenance: Maple floors must be sanded and sealed periodically depending on the foot traffic.
Sustainable: The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) does not list maple in its appendices. The Forest Legality Initiative also states that maple can be exported and traded internationally. The International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Red List of Threatened Species (IUCN) does not list maple as an endangered species.
