Workability: Moderately easy to work with considering it is a hardwood. It machines and finishes to a very smooth surface. The timber takes a fine polish and has the appearance of walnut.
Maintenance: Like all hardwoods if it is in direct sunlight it will need to be re-oiled at least once a year in order to keep its reddish brown color.
Preservation: To maintain this rich red tone, a deck oil with UV inhibitor or sealers are necessary.
Sustainable: The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) does not list massaranduba in its appendices. The Forest Legality Initiative also states that massaranduba can be exported and traded internationally. International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Red List of Threatened Species (IUCN) does not list massaranduba as an endangered species.
